Just in time for Christmas, it's the most ambitious collaboration yet from Sean Dietrich and Vincent Gordon. 'FEAR AND LOATHING IN MANHATTAN' is the 6th in the series commemorating the late Hunter S. Thompson's style of Gonzo Journalism, as well as paying homage to Ralph Steadman's insane skills with the brush, pen and ink. This private commission, not only combines a mega wish list of the client's favorites things, but also allowed Vincent and Sean to add their own spin to the Manhattan experience. The list of elements in this painting is enormous! The original measures 24" x 96", and is completely hand painted with acrylic and india ink. Stop on by the store and order up yours today--hell, own the whole series which includes Manhattan, Miami, San Francisco, Austin, Winter Wonderland, and Denver so far. All prints are limited to 1000 copies.
Ok, Fall is here and that means the grueling summer tour schedule is finally over, and I get to spend quality time with my family, and working on new projects! I just want to thank everyone who came out this summer to the shows to support my art, even if you didn't even know I was there. One of the greatest compliments I've ever been paid was when a few kids walked by my booth at Rock on the Range and said, "Wow, this art looks really out of place here!". And they were right. Most of the time at a rock show you don't expect to see art, just shirt vendors and people selling bracelets, plugs, pipes, earrings, confederate flags and other useless shit, but as long as I'm on the road, I'll continue to bring the art and help to create an experience that expands further than the show itself and the laughs you'll get at the 'I Love Vagina' booth.
So what's next? Well, it's a full plate, and I'm still deciding what comes first. I'm booked about 9 months out on commissoins right now (not a bad problem), and I've got several books in the works including the business book for artists that is still stewing. I'll know in the following months what is going to release first, and will update accordingly. Don't worry if I go dark for awhile...I promise it'll be worth it. For more up to date entries and goings on please check my facebook page at www.facebook.com/seandietrich. Cheers and have a great holiday season!!!!
Wow!!! I've actually been back from my Spring 2014 tour for over a week now, but have had to jump right into commissions, ordering and shipping out prints etc., and of course to giving my family time to remember just who the hell I am after being on the road for 2 months solid. It was an amazing experience, though, with sales alone topping most of what I did my entire tour last year, a successful run with 3 new festivals that turned out to be my new favorties, and of course meeting tens of thousands of rad people. I'm working on my summer/fall tour dates right now--which also looks incredible so far, and I'll be moving up to Washington state in about 3 weeks, so look out NW, here I (and my family) come!
Thanks so much for everyone that came out and supported me while I was on the road. One of the greatest testimonials I heard was a group of people walking by the booth, looking in, and then hearing one of them say 'Wow, that seems really out of place here at the festival", because they didn't expect anything but tshirt and sunglass vendors, not kick ass art!! I look forward to seeing you again on my summer/fall tour where I will, again, be hitting up the East Coast, and I will now get my ass back to the drawing board so I can work up some killer new art, and put together my list of announcements of things to come. Cheers!
I am very pleased to release (finally!!) the brand new paintings that I've been working on for most of the winter. These four pieces were commissioned by Sasquatch Glass (www.sasquatchglass.com), and feature 4 television shows that are near and dear to the owner. Each painting also features some of the beautiful glass that they sell--amazing hand crafted pieces from bongs to barware. Each piece of art was thoroughly researched in front of my tv, and suprisingly enough, the tv survived, as I was very close to throwing it out of the window. But at least they were amazing shows, and I hope I captured their essence and offered up a unique way of looking at them:)
BREAKING BAD - Heisenberg and his RV doing a little cooking under the Mt. Rushmore of Breaking Bad Villians. I hadn't watched most of the series at the point of being commissioned for this, so I sat and marathoned it over 2 weeks.
CHEERS - NORRMMM!! They're all waiting here at Cheers, and now you can have your fine whiskey in a fine piece from Sasquatch Glass. So let Sammy serve you, grab some wisdom from Cliff and Norm, and let Dr. Crane analyze your twisted head. You. Have. Arrived.
MAD MEN - Don Draper and one of his many women, lounging in the offices of Sasquatch Glass, enjoying some whiskey out of one of the custom pieces available at www.sasquatchglass.com. Drink in style!!
TWILIGHT ZONE - "Submitted for your approval"...a painting featuring Sasquatch Glass that will take you into the fifth dimension. See if you can name all of the episodes that are reflected in the glass!
And away we go! Time to hit the road for a good long stint after last week's Musink Tattoo Festival officially kicked off my 2014 tour. For the next 2 months, I'll be on a hellish burn across the nation live painting and pushing my art at art festivals, cannabis cups, rock shows and comic cons. I'll be in 2 places at once, I'll be time lapsing in Utah, and I'll be flooding the airwaves with new art, pics, videos and more. It's been a winter full of cabin fever and working on new ideas, and now it's time to release them on the world. I can't wait to reconnect with old fans and make an army of new ones, so see you on the road!!!
Let's start the tour off with a trip to Dallas, TX for the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. I'll be joined by superstar artist G.D. Garner, who will be showcasing his custom journals that are filled to the brim with art from the over 100 countries that he's visited. Come to BOOTH 3 by the Texas Lonestar Stage, and check out the artwork, prints, woodcuts, hear the stories of how we built up our careers as artists in very unique ways, and/or commission us for something kick ass for you walls. See you there APRIL 4-6TH. For info: http://www.deepellumartsfestival.com/
Next up is my trip to Denver to kick off the week of Cannabis Cup madness!! I'll be at BOOTH 918 at the Big Industry Show APRIL 16-18th. I've been working on a brand new piece of art for the guys over at Formula 420 and will debut the painting at the show. As usual I'll have all my brand new prints, original art, sketches and more available. I'll also be releasing info on a contest I'll be running at the show where you can win some signed limited edition prints:) INFO: http://www.bigindustryshow.com/
On April 19-20th, I'll be manning a massive art booth with Vincent Gordon at the Official High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver. Double the size of last year and with a barrage of new art, prints, woodcuts and more, we'll once again be the artistic forefront of the Cup. There'll be contests, live webcasts and interviews, live art, and we'll go for the record of how many people can faint at our booth because they are f'ked up on dabs - last year was 3, so let's up the toll this year! See you in Denver! INFO: http://www.cannabiscup.com/
Also the weekend of April 18-20th is WONDERCON in Anaheim. I do have a booth there...I might make a mystery appearance, but my lovely wife will be manning the booth so all you comic kids don't miss out on the new art! My booth is AA-043 (Artist Alley). INFO: www.comic-con.org
For my first East Coast appearance in a long friggin' time, I'll be live painting at Carolina Rebellion May 3-4th, and it's going to be a hell of a show. Rob Zombie, Kid Rock, 311, Five Finger Death Punch, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Staind and more will be performing, as well as many more. Seems like a good show to release some killer new tank girl pin ups as well....more details to come!! INFO: http://www.carolinarebellion.com/
May 16-18th will find me at one of the largest rock show in the U.S. in Columbus Ohio. I'll be live painting on something very special-- a 23ft RV! I figure a show featuring bands like Guns N Roses, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Kid Rock, Avenged Sevenfold, and a shit load more, needed something amazing for my live painting. See you in May! NEW SEMINAR 'ART: GIVING YOU THE BUSINESS' LAUNCHES 3.30.2014 IN SAN DIEGO TO HELP ARTISTS LEARN THE BUSINESS SIDE OF THINGS.
That's right, leading up to the launch of my new business book geared toward artists 'Art: Giving You the Business', I'm teaming up with Matt Schugar, founder of The Infusion Project, one of the largest art collectives in the U.S., to bring you a one day seminar that will cover several important topics that will help you sell more art, create a larger and more engaging online presence, and offer insights into some of the techniques and resources that have made my career as successful as it's become. Now it's time to share those techniques and help other artists climb up out of the ooze of a day job, or post art school depression and to sell some friggin' art!
We will be launching a webinar soon after for those not in the San Diego area, as well as touring the seminar later in the year to other cities, so keep checking back for more info.
Follow this link to the OFFICIAL SEMINAR PAGE where you can find out more on the topics that will be covered, as well as reserve for your seats for only $100 per person.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time once again to dust off my old camo painting pants, my Fear and Loathing rifle range glasses, and my boots and hit the road to spread the art like never before! 2014 will be a record breaking year, as I'm scheduled to paint live in front of (according to attendance) 2 million people at the various rock concerts, festivals, comic cons, cannabis cups and more. (Just need to get a dollar from everyone and I'm set!)
Anyways, I'm going to be bringing out the big guns once again, and will be working on a giant piece of art LIVE at every show, and am even painting a 20-something foot long RV, so come see the first time my art will grace a vehicle. I'll be updating the site as I get info on my booth numbers, special give aways, social media contests and more. I'm looking forward to seeing all my good buddies, and making tons of new ones, especially since I'll be making a rare East Coast appearance at 2 festivals TBA.
As usual I will have original artwork, shirts, prints, custom hats and more available for sale, and I'm always down for commissions as well. See you soon!!
MARCH 21ST - 23RD at the OC Fair and Event Center (88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA)
I'll be live painting in the OUTSIDE area (just means I'm closer to the booze!) Come check out my art, prints, originals and more. I'll be doing bundle packs for prints and a sketch, as well as some surprise give aways.

His book will be available too that details his journey around the globe and includes keywords such as murder, codebreaking, live art, attempting everest and more. Do not miss this opportunity to meet one of the coolest cats to pick up a brush, and I think I smell a collab for our live art piece. Hmmmm....
Here we go! Out on the road again to spread the art, see old friends and make new fans. First up is the CHAMPS Tradeshow in Las Vegas, January 21-23, 2014. I'll be there with Vincent Gordon slingin' new art--including our brand new 'Fear and Loathing' across America prints in signed poster, wood, metal or canvas options. I'll be running some specials as well, contests etc., and will be there to talk about my new business book for artists that will release later this year. Looking forward to the show and I'll see you in Vegas!!
Featuring the 'Fear and Loathing Across America' series by Sean Dietrich and Vincent Gordon! (prints available in wood, metal, canvas and poster)

Well 2013 has come and gone, and what a freakin' great year it's been!! From the ups and downs of getting sick and having surgery, to going on an amazing tour across the country with bands like Rob Zombie, Jane's Addiction and Alice in Chains headlining, 2013 has really set some records for my career as an artist. I've had the honor of watching my little boy Max grow past his first year, and my daughter, Gwen, start her educational journey with Kindergarten. This year has definitely been defined by my finally getting down to business in a big way. I've spent much of the last decade and a half trying to survive as an artist, publish books, attend conventions and slowly build up my name in the art world, doing everything I could to make sure I didn't have to go back to a day job to support my craft and my family. I spent very little time, though, analyzing my career from a business perspective, taking lessons I've learned and committing them to paper, looking at how efficiently I'm running things in order to have more time to paint etc., and just really taking stock of a whirlwind that I've called life over the last 14 years as a touring live painter (as well as author, father, husband, promoter, graphic designer, blogger, tour manager, social media manager, cook, driver and the many other names that go along with self employment).
I finally made myself sit down, take stock, go through what I was doing wrong, what I learned, what needed working on etc., and the results were nothing less than astounding. Some things that I were doing were so 'in my face stupid' that I was embarrassed to call myself a business man, and other things were validated by top professionals, which felt amazing. It's amazing how, even though I come from a background in finance and have been interested in business, I fell into the typical artist trap of not giving a fuck about nurturing that side of my career, as if it would make me less creative. Over the last year, though, I've taken to educating myself to the specifics of what has worked in my career, what hasn't and why, and next year, I'm proud to announce the launch of a brand new blog and book that will cover my experiences as an artist from the business, marketing, social media, and other assorted perspectives that aren't necessarily what you want to have to deal with, but are absolutely necessary or you might as well just keep art as a hobby and not a business. It'll be a ball busting, no bullshit, but simple way to take in information and tips, from myself and other industry professionals, that will help you immediately start taking your art career seriously, increase sales, and to understand aspects of the business side of art that you are most likely not thinking of.
It's going to be a great 2014, I hope you and your loved ones have a great holiday season, keep on creating, and I'll see you next year!
ONTO THE YEAR IN REVIEW!!!...
HIGHLIGHTED ARTWORK! Much of what I did in 2013 painting wise, was private commissions, so not many public pieces for you to chew on, but the ones I did finish I am very proud of. Lots of 'Fear and Loathing' tribute pieces including a collaborative series with Vincent Gordon commemorating the cities that we've toured in. Also, I tried out a new concept for tour which was to work on one massive painting and tour it across the country, as opposed to try to create one new piece per tour date. The result was 'Hastings' Mermaids', a 4' x 9' monster WWI U Boat painting that I took on the Metal Mayhem and Uproar tours. I will continue that tradition in 2014 as I embark on yet another wide scale U.S. live painting tour. Tour dates to come!
MY COMICS 'FERVOR' AND 'MESS' MADE IT ONTO COMIXOLOGY, AND 'CATALEPSY' IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON AMAZON.COM (CLICK THE IMAGES BELOW TO DOWNLOAD!) Thanks to the folks over at Comixology, James Taylor from Rorschach Entertainment, and 213INK my ol' comics have been digitally resurrected and are now available for as little as free in some cases! So click away and enjoy some of my earlier works:)
AND I WOULDN'T BE WHERE I AM TODAY WITHOUT MY FANS!!!! The thing that amazes me the most about my fans and supporters is how diverse they are. When I first started in the comics industry, and I was drawing super dark and violent books, I thought the only fans I would have would be suicidal death rockers and other weirdos, but as I quickly learned, as long as I'm putting out honest work with a clear message, my fans were going to be from all walks of life. (They are still weird, but that's their most endearing quality:) I thank each and every one of you for supporting me, and allowing me to continue to do this. Cheers to you!
WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN?! Well, let me show you! I'll try to remember my major events this year, but they included:
Emerald City Comic Con, WonderCon, SXSW, Long Beach Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con, Metal Mayhem , Uproar, Musink Tattoo Festival, Cannabis Cup in SF and Denver, CHAMPS Vegas and Denver, James Gray Gallery, Magic Tradeshow, and tons and tons of nightclub appearances. Here's some pics to prove I'm not just hallucinating these things!...
ART PLUS WOOD ARRIVES!!! A brilliant website launched that now handles all my high end canvas, metal and wood block prints. Thanks to Thomas Ackerman and all the people over at Spirit Printing Services for making this happen. CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW to go and check out my art, what it looks like on the different mediums, and also take some time and check out the other artists on the site--you'll be drop jawed after you do!
So over all a great year! A record year in fact. Again, thanks to everyone who supported my art in some sort of way whether it was a purchase, allowing me to work up a bad ass commission for you, spreading the word, participating in my new research surveys, bringing the whiskey or beer, and/or just being a fan of Art. The best thing in my world is to meet people that are passionate about art. They don't necessarily have to like my art, but just a few kind words to let me know I'm going in the right direction, and that what I'm doing is good for humanity is always appreciated. It's hard enough to be a career artist, and having friends and fans to help me along the way is the best tool for creating my art that I have. Thanks everyone, and I look forward to next year's antics!
I'm looking for artists and art buyers/collectors to answer a short questionnaire about your experiences. Click the links below to fill out the form. One luck person EACH WEEK, on the art buying side of things, will win a free signed, numbered print. As for the artists, when my brand new artist survival blog launches next year, I'm going to be picking one artist each week to feature! Thanks so much, and I look forward to spreading my over 20 years of professional experience to up and coming artists. Cheers!!
